Drop in a 700-R4 it will handle what you throw at it with few modifications and external cooler.

Ok First you don't build a stroker motor for gas mileage.Second if you are pushing horsepower that a normal stroker pushes you don't want to run a 700r4 because you will blow overdrive or reverse out anyway. Third what kinda rear end are you running? If you have a pretty good size cam in it it is the motor will not start really turning on till around 2500 and will go up to about 6200. thats on normal agressive cam. If you are easy on a 700r4 and don't pull anything with it or run to big of tires(not sure if you set of up for off-road or street) it will hold up but the old style trucks the column wasn't set up for overdrive trannys so you will have to run a floor shifter.

EDIT: You could probably drop a ratio in the rear end depending on what your at now.

If you are running 3000 RPM at 55 MPH you must be too low geared. With this much power you should be about 2,000 RPM maybe slightly less. to gear up change the tire size or the rear end ratio to lower your RPM's

you need to change the gear ratio in the rear end of it,,it needs to be at least a 323 would help it a lot that would greatly improve your mileage, and it would still run good, and have plenty of power,,good luck hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

get a gear vendor that goes on the back of your transmittion this can bring the rpm down at cruising and up when you want power

most of your mileage prob. is the engine, trnnys fine a higher gear in the rear is probably your answer but if you want to get on it from a stop you will sacrifice there

It's not an economy car, and you're probably laying rubber now and then. Keep your foot out of it!

Swap in a 4l80E tranny that has overdrive (and strength)
