does anyone really believe in race as anything other than a social restraint? Keep in mind that people of the SAME "race" can have more genetic variation than people of two different "races". What do you think? Would this mean that racism doesn't exist? This isn't a rhetorical question, either.

If there weren't different races of people there wouldn't be different cultures and languages, and people would be more alike than different. This would make the world a rather boring place. I agree that race is and has been a social restraint over the years, but I don't believe that is what it was meant to be, man (when I say man or men I mean mankind as it is used in the bible) has made it that way. I think that it is our diversity that makes us interesting. Creation as God made it is beautiful and when men learn to stop judging it and trying to denounce its creator the world would be a better place, and life would be even more enjoyable.

There are variations between local populations. We are one species, that is divided into groups that vary somewhat. This means, " varies " in all things. This is where in group/out group psychology comes in to the picture. The trick is, not to judge an individual person by the average traits of his group. Something none of us have any control over, average traits, that is.

PS It is true that variation is greater among than between populations, but it is a different measure of variance. This is becoming to be called, " Lewotin's Fallacy ", as Lewotin, a Marxists, was prone to statistical error, possible driven by ideology.

You are absolutely correct!
There is more genetic variation between West Africans and East Africans than there is between Europeans and East Africans, suggesting that migration to Europe occurred before spreading out to the rest of Africa.
It is a paradox that racism exists, but races do not.

I agree race is nothing more then a social restraint.Leaders used to use differing skin colours as reason for people to belong to their group.Racism is itself nothing more then brainwashing.
If it wasn't skin colour people were taught to hate then it would be eye or hair colour unfortunately as long as society blindly follows without asking why and making sure the information they get is real and factual then we will always see this sort of nonsense whether the hatred is because of race, religion or sexual preference.

I believe there are no races, but because some people think there are, there is also racism. Sadly.

Variation is a test from God. If you're rich God is testing you what we'll you do with the poor? Will you share? Treat them bad? Laugh at them? If your poor, Will you hate God for that? Will you dislike what you have and not appreciate it? etc... There is nothing called race we are all brother and any two people definitely connect to one grandfather. So black or white, beautiful or ugly, tall or short, rich or poor all tests so be careful.

I think race, as in physical characteristics predominant in a section of people, are for environmental protection. Eskimos have flat faces to shield them from harsh wind. Africans have wide nostrils and pigmented skin to deal with high temperatures and sunlight. There are reasons for all the characteristics on the outside. On the inside we are all the same.

I do not understand your question but I think if you get to know people one on one, you will find out that individually people are quite similar.

I would say the genetic variation means that racism "should not exist". Of course it does, much to the detriment of all. Racism has not benefit, and is a product of fear.

Peter Gabriel says it best in his song "Not one of us":

It's only water
In a stranger's tear
Looks are deceptive
But distinctions are clear
A foreign body
And a foreign mind
Never welcome
In the land of the blind
You may look like we do
Talk like we do
But you know how it is

You're not one of us
Not one of us
No you're not one of us
Not one of us
Not one of us
No you're not one of us

There's safety in numbers
When you learn to divide
How can we be in
If there is no outside
All shades of opinion
Feed an open mind
But your values are twisted
Let us help you unwind
You may look like we do
Talk like we do
-But you know how it is

You're not one of us
Not one of us
No you're not one of us
