Hi I have a new HP pavilion laptop with wireless network built in. It used to go into Hibernate when I shut the lid, but I went into the Power part of Control Panel and changed it to do nothing. However - when I shut the lid the wireless connection (802.11g) to the home network drops (suspends, the machine drops off the network). I stream music to the stereo from the laptop with the lid open, and i want it to keep doing so when i close the lid.

I think your laptop will always go into sleep mode when you close the lid, no problem though you can't use the wireless with the lid closed, and it will activate when you open again. It might take a few seconds to happen, but what else you have to do

properly that is meant to disconnect from the internet, and that i think of it does that as quickly as you shut the lid regardless of in case you have it set to Do no longer something. next time you connect on your instantaneous community returned, attempt finding out on 'shop This community', and if that determination would not arise, precise click on the community and flow to residences, then below the relationship tab, examine off the container that publicizes 'connect immediately whilst this community is in variety'. sturdy success, sorry i could no longer be of greater help. Network troubleshooting always starts with the hardware devices you are using and the cables that connect them. The process is the same with Wi-Fi networks.
