I am currently an assistant Mgr. at a large bank. I was offered a managers position at a much smaller bank. The bank I am currently at has 172 branches and is publicly owned the bank that offered me a position has 7 branches getting 3 ready to open next month and is privately owned. I am not sure what to do. I have been in my current job for 8 years and feel I am ready for a change of pace but I am very very nervous.. Has anyone had to make a decision like this and what was the outcome.?

You have an amazing opportunity to get in on a ground floor position. This smaller bank is on a rapid-rise. By taking this position, you can be a shooting star and quickly find yourself in a super-executive position. It will take you years with a larger bank to rise to the same position. It is easy to get lost in the larger bank, where everything you do in the smaller one will be recognized. The systems in the smaller bank will not be totally done yet, and you will have an opportunity tweak them and implement new policy. The challenges will be fun. In the larger bank, everything is in place. You may even have the opportunity to select the cities and locations of new branches with the smaller bank.

Take the job. It is not as if it is risky and you can always find a job with a large bank any time.

Every situation is different. Don't follow your heart. that is always stupid. Follow your intellect. I would need tons more information to decide. Like how much salary and commissions, what does the new bank expect, sales, etc.

So you want to be a big fish in a large pond, or a middle fish in a large pond.

As every question in life, big or small, if you don´t know, the answer is No. In Spanish: un "No sé" es un "No".
