I have a new dell and it is showing 68 sometimes more processes running at one time. I do not know much about computers, I'm still living in the punch card days. My old computer only ran about 37 and I thought that was alot. Any suggestions?

68 running process is excessive. A great resource is Process Library (http://www.processlibrary.com). It is a free website where you can search for any process and it will display its function - it also tells you if the process is genuine or malicious. Recently, they have released a new service called "Process Scanner" (http://www.processlibrary.com/processscan/). You just download the free program; the program will scan your computer and list all running processes with their corresponding function(s). Here is the description of Process Scanner as provided by the publisher:

"Our new Process Scanner brings new interactive functionality to the Process Library. Simply click on the scan button and the Process Scanner deep scans your system online to provide within seconds a complete list of all the processes, .dlls and other items that open on your system on startup, while the system is running, or even those which are programmed to run later.

Process Scanner will:

1. Offer you a results page that lists all the processes found on your system

2. Give you clear, at-a-glance, categorized information on the task functions of each process listed

3. Provide color coded information on the threat risk on all processes - from safe to dangerous

4. Advise you what action you should take concerning the listed processes.

5. Share reports..[more]

I just glanced at the list of processes you including and it appears you have a great deal of start programs. You can decrease the number of running processes if you cut down the number of startup programs.

If you need further help in deciding which Windows services and/or process you can cut, drop me an e-mail with the list of processes and their descriptions generated by Process Scanner.

You're going to be a lot better off posting the names of the processes running, then we can tell you which ones are unnecessary.
