Suppose I am 55 and a hasbeen nurse?
Then why on earth and even in heaven, would a nurse, with so much work available, be a hasbeen?
Bad back? Not in my case, no!
Stressed? Well...
Bad knee? Yeaaaaaaaaaaah!
Why?
Because despite I am living in one of the most competitive countries of the world, when it comes to us nurses the work load and the work amenities are rating very low...
I have worked in another country and I can tell you that there the helping material was very old but very impressive.
And it only means one thing: the nurses there were far more respected and have always been than here...
So, now, I am too on welfare and until, let us say, 5 days ago, I felt really guilty...
Now, I realize I am off because I broke my knee in a welfare job...
And as a matter of fact, yes your job was very stressful so don't feel guilty and have a nice happy new year...
You can always do volunteer work, if you feel so...

Difficult choice I am sure. There is nothing morally wrong with it, from my point of view. I would recommend that you strive to be as self sufficient as possible. If being on welfare is as self sufficient as you can manage, then by all means use it.
The US is a dog-eat-dog country, with no real social safety net. Almost every developed nation has a better welfare/health care system than ours, and we should be ashamed. Our country would be much better off with a stronger welfare system but I don't see it happening.
So in your case I would say use it, but be smart, and prepared for the day when the government takes it away.

There's nothing wrong with welfare as a temporary source of income for those who can't work (for example, medical reasons) or for those who don't have any skills. Tke key word is temporary. It bugs me when otherwise capable people mooch off the system when they are too lazy to get a job. That really doesn't sound like that's your reason, though. If you need it, there's nothing wrong with asking for help now and again. If your disability really affects your life, you should look into getting partial or full disability as a long term solution.
Hope this helps...

It is wrong to be on welfare if you make it a way of life. Most people have times in their lives that would have warranted being on some kind of federal aid. I am not saying that each of them has been on it, but they could have been if they wanted to be. I have worked a full time job, and been in school full time all while trying to take care of my two children. I at one time had to go onto food stamps, but was on it for a limited amount of time and did it just to get me througha rough time. That doesn't make me a bad person. If anything it makes me better then some becasue I did what it took to take care of my family, insterad of going out on the street begging. One thing that does bother me is the people who expect me to give my hard earned money to them as they sit on the side of the street holding a cup out. Those are the kind of people I can't stand. I also can't stand the people who stay on federal aid for extended amounts of time. The ones that do all that they can to keep themselves from having a job..

Not if you've earned the right.
If you've paid taxes all your life, and have done everything society asks of you, then when you fall on desperate times you deserve this country's help.
A lot of proud people have been broken unneccessarily because they would not ask for help.
Don't worry about the bum, he has his destiny and you have yours.
All America asks is that when you are able to start contributing again, you do it without hesitation.
Also i think a nervous breakdown qualifies you for Social security, which is a much fatter check.

If u need food stamps , please go get them..your taxes paid for them...don't be ashamed to have to use them.. There is no time limit on them once you get a certain age or disabled.. You don't get a lot of help but every little bit helps..Thre will always be idiots who say "you are lazy..get off your *** and go to work"....those people don't know the circumstances..they say that to me and I am disabled though I don't look it.. People that have never needed "welfare" are very judmental and love the work lazy and bum..one day they will need it and those words will haunt them. I say go for it...you might also qualify for ss disabiliity to cover medical and get a monthly check also..Ignore A holes who are so full of opinions and don't need to be on welfare ..they have NO idea how hard it is for us to be on it (me anyway)..I would rather b working.

I do not think bad of you to be on welfare. What they put you through and how one is treated when trying to get onto these programs is a lot of work and or stressful.
These programs do not make it easy as some people think to get on them.
So if you are able to get on it, go for it. One can not be on this forever, so think of your future. Disability if nothing else....
I hope you get better....
