Start a band. Learn to write your own music. Hook up with a producer if you're a bit urban. No-ones gonna hand you anything in the music biz and its a very long, very hard process. The only way to do it is to get out there and do it for yourself. Go on Musofinder.com, that should get you started and good luck because you're gonna need it!

Why do you want a recording contract? That's like asking to hand over all your talent to a corporation. A record contract means that any and all music you create and produce during the period of the contract legally belongs to the publisher.

All you need is talent and a good agent. An agent will book you gigs, but will only take 10% of your gross. You get to keep the rights to your own music. If you think you have a hit song, give it away for free! Keep the rights, but get the song out. You don't make money off of recordings, you make money by performing. Nobody's gonna show up if they don't already like your music.

This is the biggest mistake recording artists make in the business-- signing a contract with the devil.

well it's a lot of different ways you can get started. i would prefer something small at first such as colleges (fashion shows, games, awards and other social gatherings). another thing is that you have to be patient. volunteer your passion first, money will soon follow. you need ur publicity first(IE:notice i said passion instead of work or talent).... and oh yeah organize your own shows like rent out small lounges for a few hours. contact me I'll help!
