It's mostly due to the fact that you don't understand what is really happening outside of the USA. My parents had met some Americans when they were on vacation, they were both teachers and admitted they had no idea where Detroit was, or Toronto. My parents were trying to explain where we're from. We aren't from Toronto, but MOST people have at least heard of it. They said they teach what they think the kids need to know, and nothing else. So, no one really knows anything and are tought not to bother with anythign but themselves.

a. We still (for the most part) have free speech with no hate speech laws. Some people would rather have controversial issues such as race, religion, homosexuality, etc. censored so that no one is offended.
b. Being the world's major superpower, people are jealous. We are also very boastful..... We don't like to learn the languages and/or history of other countries outside of America because many of us think it isn't necessary or important. (Except for maybe those of our ancestral homelands.)
c. People don't realize our problems with illegal immigrants and think we are "racist, bigoted haters" for not welcoming them with open arms. (Although, these are often the same countries that have the hate speech laws forbidding their people to speak out about their problems with immigrants.)

Jealousy. Relative-deprivation states that (where A is the person, and X is the object):
A does not have X
A knows of other persons that have X
A wants to have X
A believes obtaining X is realistic.
That's why many people come to America. After 9/11, countries fear the U.S. more too.

I think we are thought of as the little brat on the street - or maybe England's willfull little brother who always has to come along and play. Maybe it's because our country is only 200 years old and is immature as a culture. Maybe it is because we are loud, overbearing and bossy in public and can make a general nuisance of ourselves when we go to other countries. We never both to learn the language of another, we always expect others to follow our rules and our ways - to the point where we use a disproportionately large amount of wealth, power and force to "help" other countries that don't ask for it and don't seem to help those that beg for it.

Peace!

I think because we're spoiled, rude, obnoxious and loud...not to mention wearing sweatpants in other countries. Plus, we stick our noses into everyone else's business (mainly because of wanting their oil) and we don't look at the needs of the people in the U.S.

Plus, our crime rate is so high. We give the criminals a slap on the wrist...oh, yeah, we've got to be politically correct. Don't want to offend the rapists and murderers.

And we seem to live according to our Pop Culture. Which is a joke. HipHop, Brittany Spears...etc. No wonder everyone hates us.

The culture has lost its values in family, faith, honesty, truth, compassion.... forfeited for the following the almighty dollar bill, greed, lust, immediate satisfaction and self preservation.
The Waltons, or little house - NO more!!!! Some symptoms of this are the rising rate in divorce, premarital relations, abortion, consumer fraud, pornography, and sick forms of child abuse even by high ranked church officials and the poorer getting poorer and the rich richer. I agree with the comment about the TV and how we are desensitized to things that are wrong. I think the US is a land of opportunity, but something has gone wrong,,, and needs to be restructured.

fireball 2 said it all. the people that don't like americans simply don't know us so they go on what the media shows.
THANKS FIREBALL YOU HAVE MADE MY POINT.
a lot of white people don't like blacks because of maybe one or 2 incidents or maybe just what the media shows. but they really don't know any blacks personally but still they hate em.
I SAY HATE NO ONE BUT GET TO KNOW THEM UNTIL THEY GIVE YOU A REASON PERSONALLY TO HATE THEM.
