A couple of years ago, when I was in my junior year of high school, In the locker room, this kid came up behind me and put his arm around my neck, attempting to pass me out. He held his arm there for almost 45 seconds maybe, idk. I did not pass out, but it hurt. And for a week it hurt a little, and i wasnt able to make quite a high voice.

Anyway, could it be possible that he injured my vocal chords or larynx to a significant amount? Like is it possible to externally injure it like that?

I just wanna know, to see that could I have been able to become maybe a singer and now I can't anymore because of that?

Is there any chance of permanent damage?

Or am I just being silly and paranoid. This is a very emotional issue for me, it has been hurting me, if anyone at all can help, or if anyone knows an Ear Nose Throat Doctor, then please please help, thanks.

That guy might have bruised your vocal cords. I would try taking an anti-inflammatory like Motrin or aspirin with food; drink hot teas to soothe the throat, and don't try to sing or talk loudly as that strains your vocal cords. Also gargle with salt water (1 tablespoon per cup of warm water) a couple time a day. If you have a humidifier at hom, use it cause dry heated air will dry out your throat. If you don't improve in a couple of weeks, go to the doctor and ask for a cortisone shot. That would be by best advice for you. godloveya.

It's near impossible to hurt your vocal cords with external pressure, much the same as it's impossible to massage out "tight" vocal cords. Unless you had a puncture wound, it's extremely unlikely the choking did anything more than make it hard to breathe.

Bruising around your vocal cords can cause compression on the cords leading to limitation in vocal range. This will resolve most likely in the two weeks following your injury.

the 1st element that turns into puzzling to swallow are beverages whilst there is an epiglottis or swallowing mechanics situation. it quite is very severe because of the fact aspiration pneumonias carry an extremely intense mortality value. First, see your ENT or a gastroenterologist. till you get an appointment tuck your chin on your chest once you swallow. this could help beverages to head into the esphogus as a substitute of the trachea.
