Try Planxty, Sin e, via Amazon. I understand both bands are now defunct but they are very good. I bought a Sin e CD last week of Amazon.

Certain classic Irish bands, such as Clannad, have been engineered to death.

If you can find any recording with Liam O'Flynn, Donal Lunny, Liam O'Manlaia, Christy Moore - singly, or in combination, you can be sure of a good, authentic sound.

Phil Coulter Westlife (no longer likely "trad" Irish music, however the are from eire) The Corrs (combination of pop and trad) Planxty (based via Christy Moore) Bothy Band Shen nice (i think of they're American, yet they sing Irish songs) Black 40 seven (punk rock, reggae, Irish fusion, from the 80s and early 90s) nice Crowd (i think of they're Canadian) Solas Déanta (from Northern eire) Clannad (from Doengal) Irish Tenors (consistent with danger no longer your cup of tea, yet they sing classic Irish songs) Celtic Tenors Gaelic hurricane (Irish band from CA)

Anything by the Dubliners, you could even try the Pogues. For the past couple of years around st Patricks day there' been a compilation album called Shamrocks and Shenanigans, which might be good if you can find a copy.

All rubbish answers up to now.

You want to check out the early Chieftains albums, Mary Bergin, De Danaan, Patrick Street, Na Fili, The Furey Brothers, Leo Rowsome, Paddy Glackin, Planxty.

You do not want U2.

I'm not sure how legitimately Irish all the pieces on it are, but Arthur Fiedler's an Irish Night at the Boston Pops is a nice cd.

The Pogues obviously.
Get either 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God' or 'Rum, Sodomy And The Lash'.

I like Flogging Molly too, they're a bit more punk but if you're into that you'll probably like 'em!
