When it was first released, Disney's 'Three Little Pigs' was accussed of giving some very young children nightmares, which is the main reason that late fourties cartoon isn't shown by Disney any longer. There was a similar reaction in some audiences when the Queen from 'Snow White' took her true form of an old, ugly witch and tried to kill Snow White by rolling boulders down on here, only that time the criticism didn't matter to general audiences and Disney tended to ignore it. Those two incidents are fairly rare in the history of American cartoons and animated movies, which generally avoid anything potentially controversial. As for the Betty Boop cartoons, a few of those (notably the one featuring Betty as Minnie the Moocher) were deliberatley weird and, in my opinion, quite beautiful. Your mileage obviously varies.
