Can anyone offer input on how to fix it? I have to go in and manually move it and attempt to restart the spin cycle... sometimes to success and sometimes to failure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The rotary switch needs to be replaced. The last one I replaced was about $75.00. You can do this yourself just make sure you un plug the washer.

To me it sounds like the motor on the switch, look at the switch and try to clean it. MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF -unplug it first please.
