There are some conditioning exercises that you should be doing in your class to help you out. You can do your front handspring over a folded panel mat or over a wedge mat. Either way, your hands are higher than your feet so when you do the handspring it is easier to land on your feet. When that becomes really easy then you can work on it without your hands on the mat, landing will be very easy after working with your hands up on a mat.
If your gym has a tumble track, then the trampoline will help you push to your feet. Drilling them on a tumble track or an extended trampoline will improve your landing. We have also used an octagon mat to do handsprings over while on the tumble track. This helps out if you are having trouble making it to your feet.
You can also do handstand blocks. The better you can use your block motion out of your shoulders, the higher and harder you will push yourself off of your hands giving you an easier time of landing on your feet.
If your teacher is spotting you as you do it, this will get your body used to landing in the correct position. You will need to just continue to do it over and over, repetition is the key to getting your muscles conditioned to doing the trick properly. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Firstof all, a back walkover is a slower version of a front handspring! additionally basically attempt one on a tumble music or trampoline! Or do a handsatand and land in a back bend, then upward thrust up! desire this helps!

when i first learned
i would just put my hands down and fall back
until i could make it so my feet landed flat on the ground
and then id stand up
and i kept doing that until i could stand up right away after doing one
you know?
good luck :)
