Is it possible that you have a utility installed that deletes or overwrites the paging file at shutdown? And, as some of the other members suggested, you may have a slew of programs/processes running. Determine what is running with control-alt-delete keys.

You might also consider downloading an app, such as Tuneup Utilities, to view and disable certain applications from loading on startup. Keep in mind, some programs need to start. However some apps will add an icon in the system tray and will run in the background. If they are programs that are not needed, they can be disabled from starting at boot.

It's probably doing that because you've either

1) Had lots of programs running at the same time (The computer shuts them all down one by one)

2) Running out of memory space (Ram)

3) Possible virus (Do a virus scan)

4) Your computer is begging you to clean it out, so start by cleaning out programs you don't use, icons you don't need and files that are just sitting there.

Usually it means that it's shutting down all process that are running on your PC. Next time, when the computer is running, hit alt, ctl & del and see how many process are going on. You can minimize the processes by manipulating the startup programs on your pc. There's great articles on how to minimize start up programs by just "Google-ing" it.

It could mean that you have a lot of junk in the computer, i.e. duplicate files, or you have programs running you don't know about. Read your owners manual.

programs/services running at the background are ending its process. try running MSCONFIG and clear non-critical(non-microsoft) services and startup items.
