No it's not.
The "average" American consumes about 2,000 calories a day compared to 1,850 twenty years ago. In order to consume 10,000 calories in a day you would have to had to consumed more than 10 sodas of high sugar drinks, eat out for all three meals (all with an average or 2,000 calories each) as well as have at least three 500 plus calorie snacks.
I won't say no American consumes that much, as it is possible for many since sugar and high-sugar drinks have become one of the leading sources of calories consumed in a day, but not an average American. An athlete may consume that many calories within a day if training for a major competition, but I'm not sure where you came up with the consensous of 10,000 calories a day.
Yes, American's in general have become more overweight and obese than the rest of the world not only because of what they eat, but what they do to burn the calories that they have consumed. Americans have been given the image of lazy people. Even though I am American, I agree that many have become so wrapped up in the modern day conveniences that exercise and a healthy lifestyle has been surpassed by convenience and efficiency.
I have attached some links that reference several of the points I have address. Good question though, and have a great Holiday Weekend!

At pyramid.gov u will find what ur specific calorie needs are. For example I am a active( work out 1hr-2hr a day) 20 yr old female so because I burn a lot of calories my caloric intake is to be 2200 calories per day. Now if u lead a sedentary lifestyle( no exercise), u are supposed to eat like only 1200 calories a day (torture!) But Americans consume toooooooo many calories daily and dont burn them off. 1 mcdonalds meal can serve as ur max daily limit of calories, (bad!) did I help

Hello =)
No, it most certainly is not true......
I am a big lard-ar se and only consume 2800 calories a day on average.
If Americans consumed 10,000 calories a day, I would be in the lowest 10% in body size, as opposed to the top.
You silly monkey...
Namaste,

If the "average" American consumed that many calories we would all be overweight including you. I'd say the average American might consume between 1500 and 2500 calories a day which is healthy depending on the source.

10,000 daily calories is highly unlikely in this day and age. There was a report that I read some time ago that stated there were only two occupations that required 10,000 calories daily to remain in prime condition. A field slave during America's slave period and that of a seaman aboard a sailing vessel.

Nope. I seriously don't think it is physically possible to eat that many calories in a day- at least not without those weightlifter-type supplements seen in nutrition stores(and I doubt even that). The reason so many people are getting heavy is because they are sedentary and eating the wrong kind of food.

Unless your a cyclist or a professional athlete you need all those calories because you burn alot. But if an American with a stationary lifestyle ate that much they would get to 300 pounds easily.

No. Maybe some do, but not all of us. I consume less than 2500 calories per day.
I guess you could consume that much if you ate every meal at fast food joints.

LOL I'd say that's probably true, for those that eat fast food daily.
As for me, I've easily consumed that today with all the junk I've been scarfing. Usually, though, I'm lucky to get about 1,000 a day...as someone once said, I eat like a sparrow.

Does not surprise me. Its to do with all the candy they are forever stuffing in their mouths. That is why their dentists are the best paid in the world and whitewash is making a comeback as they are running out of whitener for their gnashers.
