Hi,

I have a Kenmore Pur Ultra Filtration System refrigerator. I am not using the water filtration system (I have not attached it to an external water outlet).

My refrigerator is not defrosting and lot of ice is accumulating. Anyone know's what the problem might be?

Also, is it a way to manually defrost it till I can fix the problem?

Thanks,

Ajay.

Some people use a rubber mallet to remove excess ice, others swear by a hair dryer, or by a steaming kettle placed in the emptied freezer. For fixing the problem with automatic defrost, please check your owners manual --troubleshooting, or call Sears --Customer Service, and/or Parts and Service Dept. for free professional; advice and cost estimation. Good luck.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago. It was the thermostat. My shop was located next to Johnstone Supply (a huge manufacturer for heating, refrigeration, etc). They told me it was easy to change and the part only cost about $30. Unfortunately I was too late, my ex-roommate already called a repairman. The bill was approx. $250.

It is the defrost timer or the heating element. To defrost it just unplug it and wait till the ice melts.
