I have this arch nemesis who loved to go on and on about how intelligence was different and genetically linked to one's "racial" group. He loved to use the Bell Curve theory to explain why people were the way they were. Although he had a 4.0 in college and was smart, he was a total jerk. I had the same grades too but I did not go around rubbing it in people's faces.
Long story short, I dared him to get a genetics test ---you know that test that tells you your genetic percentages like if you are 100% Anglo, African, East asian, Indo European, etc. Well he got his test back and found out that he was half West African, and a quarter Indo-European and like a quarter Anglo. He was smashed because he thought that he was 100% Scottish and he looked down on EVERYONE, If someone of another person from an ethnic group did a great job on something academic, athletic, or artistic he would just totally dismiss it. Now he is coming around me for advice and is looking sad.

And I had a test run on me too. I was all British. And this is a real legitimate test.

I think anyone who works hard, talented, smart, or good looking should be recognized and get kudos.

But what should I tell him. He's coming over in an hour or so. And he is really smashed.

Tell him karma sucks. I don't have pity for fools who degrade and belittle others. Degrading another makes that person feel superior. They do so because of their own insecurities and low self esteem. And of course, karma is really a wonderful thing as it has been proven with your friend, what goes around comes around.

If you are sensitive to his needs now that he is on the pity potty, then my ad vie will go unheeded. But if not, I would suggest you tell him to flush the potty and deal with it. Let this be a lesson not to look down upon others. We all have our strengths and weaknesses in life. Learn to accept them and treat everyone the same because there are MANY other people who are far more superior than him in many categories.

I'd point out all his good features, like the 4.0 he rubbed in people's faces and say it wasn't changed simply because he's not Scottish. Remind him of his confidence before the test; say something along the lines of "you still have a superior intellect, it's just not superior to people's ethnic groups". He might harbor some enmity towards you because you made him take the test in the first place, but try to remember that his world and self-confidence have just been smashed to pieces.

If you want to really get picky, ALL OF US came from one mother, who lived in Africa. Genetics traced all of us back to one mother. That means, all of us at present, are ALL RELATED and are ALL THE SAME. But, unfortunately, many of us, the darker our skin color, the lazier! we are. So the lighter skin members of all of us look down upon the darker skin members of all of us. Because, skin color is irrevelant. We are all from the same original mother.

Tell your friend that WHAT HE DOES, WHO HE IS, has nothing to do with his ancestors. I do not care if he a decendent of Atilla the Hun. That does not matter. All that matters is YOU! and NOW!!

And PS, I have never seen anyone 100% anything. We are all a mix. Interestingly, when some dark skinned get this type of test and find that their ancestors are a MIX of dark and light skinned people, they IGNORE their light skin ancestory and go around saying they are 100% dark. I will not use the word they use, it is annoying. Af-----American. Nonsence. If you are born here, you are American. Period!!

Oh well, he has to put his foot in his mouth about the Scottish thing. So what, all the things he did well obviously weren't a result of him being a superior race. Just let him know that he is a great, successful person, independently of his genetic makeup.
