A sleeping bag...is that a toy? It counts! It was very comfortable. I used to go stair sledding in it and used to scared my little sister by getting in it the wrong way and crawling on the floor like a giant slug...Ahhhh, good times. I miss my sleeping bag! :(

The best Christmas present I got as a kid, in the material sense, was a Mop Top Barbershop playset.
It it the only toy I remember clamoring after and begging for repeatedly. Every time I saw a new toy commercial, my toy requests would change. But the Mop Top Barbershop was something I definitely had my heart set on. It was a Play-Doh toy.
I got it, shrieked with delight, played with it for less than an hour. Then the Play-Doh got all dried up (I didn't put the toy away properly), and I lost all interest in it. That's what Christmas gifts for kids are all about, right?
I lost interest quickly in that toy, yet now I remember it very fondly. It is the only toy I can ever recall really having my heart set on.
The best non-material Christmas gift I got was being able to spend time with my family without wanting to wring their necks. Remember when it used to be a treat to spend time with aunts and uncles and cousins? I used to love running around and having fun with them as a little girl. Then you get older, and realize how gossipy and mean-spirited and hurtful family can be, and you begin to dread spending time with them.

This might not be the best present I ever got, but I remember it best. My brother got me hardbound copies of Little Women and a book of poetry, and to disguise the package he used two of the throw pillows off the couch. He wrapped the books with the pillows so that it was a really strangely shaped package, and it drove me nuts for weeks!
Merry Christmas!

the best gift that I got was to see my grandpa for the first time and of course having my whole family with me..i think that is the best thing that anyone can have..as long as they have their family and friends there for them, then everything will fall into place. i was 8 when i met my grandpa for the first time and it was the most exciting moment of my life. spending almost 9 years of your life without knowing your grandfather and thinking that he could die any day, was very hard for me. i tried my hardest to be patient with my mom and not be her to bring my grandpa to the U.S. from Colombia, and then when i least suspected i was embraced in his arms. i think that is the one moment in my life that i will always remember!
