I don't believe Courage is any rarer today than ever. It is however often more complicated today.

If the situation is simple, it is not at all rare to see someone risk their life to run in to save a cat, much less another human, in such a situation as a burning building. The firefighters who lost their lives rushing into the towers on 9/11, or those who crashed the plane in a field to keep it from a building are excellent examples. But they did not do this in the other planes because the reality was not so clear.

In a situation such as rescinding the rights gained at great loss of life such as the battle of Runnymead, Evil people have been able to cloud the issue with conflicting claims, to make it, if only for the moment not so clear as to the right and wrong of it.

If King John had been able to convince the baron's men that they were only helping the barons replace the king with power hungry barons, he might have won the day, and we might still be fighting off tyrants.

.....Oh yeah .... we still are... Given clarity, uncommon courage is easy to find, but no less noble for it.

It has been the genius of the Gang Of Predators to cloud that clarity, and to make it difficult for people of courage to see a clear path to making a difference.

If that moment of clarity can be achieved, true patriots will rise like grass in a field after a rainstorm, and history will pity the tyrants.

For most people, the stakes have simply become too high to allow any sort of personal courage. Too many people can get shot *dead* by the Police, for any reason whatever, or worse yet, for none at all. Too many people can lose their jobs and be forced to live on welfare for any reason whatever, or none at all....

We live in a world, or at least in a *society* here in the USA where people are *so* cutthroat that the effect is that of a Winner Takes All, Loser Gets None Society. Really. All it takes is *one* honest mistake early in life--like oh, being born to the wrong parents--and you end up being left behind, left in the gutter to rot while the Media and the Rich Folks bash you to death for "being lazy" or "being a loser."

Really. Whatever happened to teaching people that "It's not whether you win or lose, but how well you play the game?" That is not an *excuse*, ok, but a *coping skill*. Because not everybody can be a Latter Day Jedi....not everyone can get paid millions to play basketball like Jordan did, or billions to crack code and make a monopoly like Bill Gates did.

Or...here's another quote to consider, from a comic book:

"With great power, comes great responsibility."

Nothing wrong with that, right? But....what happens when you live in a world where you are routinely shown to *have NO power*, even over your own life, never mind anyone else's? What happens when you live in a society where you do the *best work of your life* and lose your job any damn way, "just because"? What happens when you do your dead-level best to raise your children correctly and to teach them to be hard-working, compassionate, moral people....only to see them *Die* needlessly in a school shooting? What happens when you fight a "War on Drugs" and drug use *gets worse*? What happens when you do what you are told to do, giving life and limb to fight a "War on Terror", only to come home and find yourself *less safe* than you once were?

What happens when you live in a world where everyone you know, and every one around you, not just you yourself but your whole neighborhood, or your whole hometown, ends up being stuck with a life where they have NO control, and NO power?

Wouldn't that rather imply that, in the absence of power, that you *cannot* be responsible? For yourself even, never mind anyone else?

And let's not confuse the issue....courage is not the absence of fear, ok? Courage is the ability to *master* one's fear and to execute anyway, and *remain* capable and to *remain* responsible in the face of overwhelming threat.

So....what is the point of mastering fear, if we aren't capable of anything, and therefore aren't responsible *for* anything?

I wish I knew....Take care, and share your love with someone this Holiday, it is a needed thing no matter what you celebrate. :)

Its still exists but in more diplomatic ways. While in the 'days' sorting out an issue meant going out and thrashing the hell out of each other, now people talk, learn how to control themselves and understand other peoples opinions without need to display their ego, thanks to education available, psychology, Internet etc...... I visit some parts of Africa and 'Courage' still exists where a men go hunting for lions with their bare hands.....( which courage did you have in mind by the way?......)

It depends on what situations your talking about.

It's a very unstable world today. Most people, quite rightly, have decided that it's better to live a life that is stable than be courageous and lose it all.

That's sort of vague. In relation to what? You're making a judgment without any sort of clarification, decrying the ills of society... just cus?
