Because if it works, then the pharmaceutical companies dont make any money. The book "natural cures they dont want you to know about" (or something like that) is mind blowing to read. Basically, the traditional medicine may take care of one symptom, but slowly they poison people over time. This affects health. Down the road, people get new symptoms and dont even realize it is stemming from the trad meds they were/are taking.
Because of this, they then have to go back to the doc, and get more poison meds to correct the new symptoms. Its a vicious cycle and BOTH the pharmeceutical companies and the FDA makes money.
The book I wrote about above explains all of this and more. People in the FDA have stocks, and are sometimes even chair members in certain big pharmeceutical companies. This means their decisions will ALWAYS support traditional medicines over alternative ways. They are simply loosing money when we consumers are getting smarter and switching to a healthier lifestyle. They dont like that. So, they ban ban ban and are currently, RIGHT NOW, trying to make it so we have to go to the doctor to get a PERSCRIPTION for vitamins. They even was to patent herbs!

Quite a few ayurvedic remedies were found to contain pesticides and heavy metals. That's why certain countries put a total ban on Ayurveda. This might not be entirely fair since many manufacturers are very aware of these issues

Pharmaceutical companies want to sell drugs to everyone. They try to make any alternative to you buying their products look bad. They try to influence doctors and the media to further their cause. There was a 20 year study done at a prominent NY Hospital evaluating the merits of Eastern & Western medicines that determined that the best treatment is a combination of both. Ayurveda is OK, its been used longer than drug therapy.

Even if there is some controversy about hypothyroidism treatment in medical science, it is still best to stick with the science rather than going alternate. At least medical science is actively studying hypothyroidism and debating treatment, which is a strength of science, it is self correcting and based in evidence. Alt med only consists of treatments that have not been proven to work or be safe, or treatments that have been proven not to work or not be safe. They put no real effort into studying conditions like hypothyroidism, instead just offering the same old baloney, like homeopathy as you mention. Homeopathy is preposterous nonsense that has never been shown to work beyond placebo in any good quality study. It is good to seek options, but homeopathy should not be one of them. Kelp iodine is not a safe long term solution. Edit: Udaya - please post your compelling evidence that your magic water can cure hypothyroidism. That is good quality, independent, peer reviewed, double blinded, randomized clinical trials. You should have done that in the first place but you scam artists never do, do you?
