Kofi Annan leaves the UN on News Years Day. Rather than simply replace him, should world leaders take a fresh look at the UN & it’s relevant in today’s world?

I feel the UN is an indecisive, inactive, squabbling, corrupt, under-achieving, over-spending disaster. Look at the UN impact on the Iran & N.Korean issues – Useless

Also, look at Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. The UN corruptly ran secret oil deals with Saddam, making him a fortune.

Then used sanctions on the oppressed civilians to deny food & medicine!! This was a secret UN policy of intentional genocide, lasting well over 10 years.

UN intervention in Iraq killed 1.5 million oppressed Iraqi’s, but paid millions to the evil Dictator.

A few other UN corruption & extortion scandals:

-In West Africa, it's Sex-for-Food, with UN workers demanding sex from locals as young as four
-In Cambodia it's drug dealing
-In Kenya, it's the refugee extortion racket
-In the Balkans, it’s sex slaves

What would you do with the UN?

If you read the UN Charter, you'll discover the idea behind the UN is to create a united global military and governing power.

The UN was part founded by Alger Hiss. He was later uncovered as a Soviet spy & Communist and went to jail - look it up.

If you're American, they want to remove your right to bear arms and bring your military under international command.

Imagine having foreign troops on your streets during a disaster, but not having a right to defend yourself.

If you still need convincing on their corruption, look at:

Alan L - I know about Sierra Leone and its warlords, rebels & death squads.

I remember the famous and brutal West Side Boys who used to rape women, chop limbs off civilians & murder men. I also remember the West Side Boys taking 11 members of the Royal Irish Regiment hostage, even though they were British peace keepers & not a threat.

If you recall, my country deployed the best soldiers in the world - the British SAS.

The SAS launched operation Barras and stormed the West Side Boys camp, killing over 25 rebels, wounding dozens more, kidnapping their leaders and only losing one British soldier. The SAS's speed and lethal assault put the West Side Boys in so much fear, they gave themselves in and broke up.

I'm British & we have done more for Sierra Leone than any other nation, so please don't be so confrontational.

The UN has done some good, but Africa shouldn't have to rely on hand outs - the WTO should open up free trade to the continent.

I do not know about "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". Somehow I still am idealistic enough to enjoy the idea of all those countries getting together to talk..(I mean ideally it is so civilized and mature) But the UN certianly could use a face lift...or is that an enema. Beacuse it seems like one big, stinking, constipated,...
oh my I am too much of a lady to say...but you get the point.

Rwanda!
Zaire!
Bosnia!
Sudan!
Kosovo!
Darfur!

This is Kofi Anans Legacy. Millions Dead! Billions Suffering!

Well that and the constant abuse he has heaped upon the ONLY democracy in the Middle East. (Israel)

He is a sick son of a hand in the cookie jar creep! And personally, though it is NOT at all Christian to say so, I hope the door smacks his useless rear-end as he leaves. GOOD RIDDANCE! to Kofi!

God is forgiving and is Love and will judge him rightly according to his heart.

I and the cognoscenti of the world are not so forgiving and he has been found most wanting! I would send him straight to H-E –double hockey sticks! Good thing I am not God!

The oil for nutrients concern became somewhat exploited via FoxNetwork to detract from the Halliburton fiascos. The capability of the U.N. is predicated on the risk-free practices Council's help and since the united states of a is a important area of that, Annan and the UN did no longer obtain what it mandatory to be triumphant in the Sudan.

I am not pro-UN but i think that we are judging the UN's effectiveness by the wrong criteria. The UN is an ideological organisation who's remit is primarily to promote peace and humanitarianism. They are not an all singing all dancing military machine, if it is military intervention that you require then call NATO (if they are picking up the phone).

How easy do you think that this job is? Any volunteers?

The UN is only as effective as its constituent members (Caveat; and the will of the security council). The US has repeatedly, public ally and politically undermined the role and scope of the UN. Russia has vetoed continuously any attempts of intervention within nation states in danger of intervention in Chechnya as has China with Tibet.

The UN is theoretically sound and has the potential to make an increasingly positive impact on the world however it is us, our nation's will that takes the power, integrity and impartiality from the hands of the Secretary General and his staff.

No you rogue!!!! You only highlighted the shortcomings of the UN to bamboozle honest people into supporting your crazy idea. I am African and live in Africa....Do you know how many people the UN feeds through their Agency WFP annually who otherwise would starve to death? Specifically I am Sierra Leonean....doubt whether youve heard the name of that country. In Sierra Leone, when rebels shot to high heaven on drugs were amputating the limbs of people with machetes, raping children and recruiting them to fight under the influence of drugs, killing just for fun, where were you? When Jesse Jackson was sent to Sierra Leone and Liberia as US envoy to assess the situation and he compared Foday Sankoh (the leader of the ruthless RUF rebels), to Nelson Mandela while his rebels were massacring innocent Sierra Leoneans? Where were you? It was the UN that mobilised 17,000 peacekeepers, the largest UN peacekeeping force of the day, to bring sanity and stability back to Sierra Leone...even now 4 years after the war was over the UN is implementing peace consolidation programmes to ensure the country does not return to violence. And what will you say about the efforts of WHO? Checking the spread of communicable diseases like ebola and do you see their response to bird flu....or you must be blind. My friend global tensions today quite outweigh those that existed before and during the period of World War II but they have not escalated into a world war. Give credit where credit is due!! Or you would be throwing out the baby with the bath water. Or would you?

Kofi Annan...great man who has tried on many occasions to change things but as always the UN is ruled by the US.
The UN should allow all nations to have equal say and none to have a veto. The UN should be there to stop bully nations. As it stands today, it does very little if nothing at all....it's all a show.

No silly. Read the UN Charter. The Secretary General is the leader of the General Assembly but the Security Council appoints him, and he's like their official peon. He has to report to them. So, he has no decision-making role. It's simply ceremonial. The problems are due to the Security Council. Go to the UN website and look for their Charter if you don't believe me.

How strange to find someone who agrees with my thinking on the UN... Only its not just the UN... There are too many bodies set up to control, administer and hinder the work and roles of many a good man and his wife that only want to work for an honest living..

Not take the rest of the UN with him, just the ones who support the crazy mullahs in Iran. You know the countries, it's the usual suspects. Russia and China.

For good measure, take the French with you too. I'd hate to see the U.S. have to rescue those whiners again when they realize they don't know what they're doing.

Sounds good. Last I read they need building refurbishments to the tune of over a billion dollars in order to stay in business. That is over $400 million from the US. Me, I don't see the benefit for that amount of money.

What would I do? I'd kick them out of the U.S., and withdraw the U.S. from what is a worthless body of parasitic nations who want the U.S. to solve all their problems, and then criticize the U.S. when it does.

You're quite correct, the U.N. is a corrupt organization and should be dissolved. Or better yet, let'em move to France!!
