Avoid at all costs giving them meat products. Many of these type of foods contain "hard fats", which can cause the build up of fatty tissue around the Oscar's heart. It used to be the norm to feed Oscars & Discus on beefheart , but new research, shows that type of food is a "no-no". As you are aware, Oscars will eat just about anything. Cockles, mussels, Oily fish ( Mackerel, herring, sardine, sprats ) Some vegetable content is a good idea. Tinned peas, sweetcorn, lettuce, are all good.
Please do not feed live fish. This is unneccesary, & besides there is new legislation in the pipeline which will make this practise unlawful.

I feed my oscars a variety of foods. Oscars are great about taking most foods you offer them. Small oscars will readily eat feeder guppies and small feeder goldfish. The larger oscars will eat the larger feeder goldfish as well as any fresh store-bought meats.
I would caution you about going out into your garden and digging up worms for your fish. These worms could harbor parasites and/or diseases that could transmit to your fish.
Even the fish bait worms can have parasites, so beware! Best thing to do if you want live worms/crickets is to buy them from a reputable fish store that are actually sold for the purpose of feeding fish.
You know, as a sidebar, I would take the top off my tank with my very first oscar and hand feed him, teaching him to jump. Bad move on my part! He had this nasty habit of jumping out of the tank even when I was not around! More than once I came in the room, and there he was on the rug! I picked him up, put him back in the tank, good as new! Bottom line? Don't teach your oscars to jump!

if your anything like me i cant feed them live fish i used to have three tigers and one albino in 6 foot tank they used to love pond pellets as long as they wern't to small but their favourite was bacon chopped up dont ask me why they used to take it out of my hands and this way they become quite tame even letting you stroke them which makes them easier to catch if need be

hi sky
I would try brandlings (they are small red garden worms) depends on how big your Ascars are now?
if they quite big already try sweetcorn or even small pieces of pork luncheon meat which they suprisingly seem to love.
Happy xmas from briscoebill@yahoo.co.uk

Feed them more live fish, like tetras. Black worms will also do.
