I do think Italian football is a little more rough, it's not always brutal. It's not really deliberate
It's not so bad when they play against each other. It's clearer when you see Italy facing international team. When Italy faced off USA in the world cup 2006 there was a player that was badly injured by de rossi's elbow. There was another quite bad accident that involved materazzi. I'll provide the link to both clip below.
(word of warning! It gets a bit bleedy..)
They're not always intentional its just the way that football is played there. Italian league do give quite skillful and entertaining football performance =]

I personally don't think the italian league in general is that violent, i suppose its just some players that play like that

Some players are just aggressive and play very defensively. But, I wouldn't necessarily say they are violent.

i can honestly say lots of european football games can turn violent. If you go on youtube and search soccer fights. you'll see all the european clubs that cause mayhem and chaoes in the game!
