They focus on what should be, not on what is. Focusing on what should be without appreciating what is provides the liberal with angst and anger towards the status quo. Nothing is liberal enough, nor progressive enough. You see that most media types and journalists are liberals(with the exception of Fox with is the other end of the spectrum).

Without liberals we would still have segregation and slavery, but we have Abortion on Demand and Pornography available to children because of them also.

I think that the key to your question is the words "seem to". It's almost certain that you have a certain theory about how the world works, and it leads you to believe certain things about liberals and about conservatives, and you look for evidence to support those beliefs.

Do you have any evidence that liberals focus on the negative more than they do on the positive? Or more than conservatives focus on the negative? Obviously we could make a strong case that it is conservatives who focus on the negative (take Iraq, for the most obvious example, or American foreign policy in general...).

If there were evidence for this, it'd bear explaining. Without such evidence, it's your belief that bears explaining.

People respond to negative faster than postive.
Rumors are rarely postive ideas or information on another person .they are 99% of the time, something bad about a person.
People have been weaned on gossip about movie stars.. that is usually all bad too.
Its sad to say but people turn on the news to find out what went wrong today not went right right. If too much positive is presented they don't even want to believe it. They think its fake.

i am not a liberal, however i am more sympathetic to their cause than i am conservatives. liberals are focused on ideals. liberals realize how our country should be, and when we violate that, they step in. and without that, our country would be no different than communist russia. for instance, george bush has violated our most sacred govenmental document, the constitution, as this is incontrovertible, i dont understand why more people are not in outrage. but the truth is, conservatives follow leaders blindly, whereas liberals follow ideals. you call if negative thinking, while i call it patriotism.

Because they are realists. As opposed to Neocons, which just go on the offensive because they have no real arguments for their point of view, which they believe is the universally correct one. Its easier for a Con to insult someones point of view then defend his own.
