Constant vigilance of thinking positive, in your case. I take it you have had a really rough childhood, and probably a introvert, (keep in mind there is nothing wrong with being introverted). This mix will however affect how you sometimes, or usually think. That in turn will cause your brain to repeat those thoughts more often. The brain wires itself according to what parts are most commonly used. If you start forcing positive thoughts, it will become more natural. Also smile more, your body can trick your mind into thinking... If you can manipulate your face to display a sad emotion, you will start to feel sad, where as if you smile, you will start to feel happy. Try this out on your own.

I notice that you frame your question in regards to being married for two years, and that you are only 26.

Are you happy with your marriage? Do you feel trapped? Are you placing your fate in someone else's hands? => On one hand you can sit there and search for the source of your pessimism. That is the simple, "I've done all I can do, it's in your hands now" answer.

This might be worth the time because you might learn something about yourself but it is tedious and lonely.

If you want to change who you are reconnect with your friends and family. Go back to school and make new friends. Do something exciting and physically challenging. Save your money instead of wasting it. And don't just feel like you are honest, tell people the truth.

Good luck

A lot of the advice is good, meditation, exercise, wildness...but I think its important sometimes to speak to a professional therapist. Just go in with the goal being to be more optimistic and work with them to see how you can transform yourself to achieve it. You can't do with someone who already knows you, you need them to be impartial and trained. I do agree with some though that optimism can just be a crutch to concealing...but hell, you should look at the future as an opportunity for some positives. We have to try at least....dream big and work hard!

Leslie has a good idea to start. Read some books on positive thinking.

I do meditation. It increases my positivity level & also helps me understand my mind. My attitude has been profoundly affected from when I first started practicing seriously.

Good Luck & Peace on earth,

:-)

There are lots of things you can do to start being optimistic, read books about positive thought, join the gym, and stay away from the people who you think was pulling you down.

I don't know your religions beliefs, but just ask the God above that you know to show you a way.

Then He will.

When we open ourselves to Him, He acts in a marvelous way.

The reason why we don't perceive His action is because we put up all sorts of barriers against him, which are a barriers based on some element of bad will within us.

But we can change that bad will if we really want to.

Meditation does help, gives peace to mind and you start thinking positively. Make it a point to think only of the good in any situation and you will win.

I hate positive people...all those phony smiles and handshakes--they disgust me.
The same people try to stab you in the back throughout the year but when Christmas comes around they want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Who needs them? Not me.
Just be yourself. There's nothing wrong in being pessimistic about the world around you.
Let's face it, it's a shite world.
