The 1990 Chevy Silverado SS 454 is that just a 1990 Silverado with a 454 or is it more than that? I love those trucks and REALLY want one. Are they a good buy? Are they powerfull and fast like they are supposed to be? Let me know, thanks!

I am no longer in the business, but I can answer anyway if I may. I remember when those came out, and I read that the buyers were disappointed in the performance, however, with some tweaking and addition of a chip, exhaust headers, better muffler/s, etc they woke up and RAN.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no its not particularly fast. GM shot themselves in the foot on this one....had incredible potential, but they used a very torquey RV motor with round or "peanut port" heads. And no, I do NOT mean oval. Would bounce the passenger's head into the back window from a start, but ran out of breathing by about 80. Mine was a 90 and came with the 400 trans (3-spd). After a 2/4 drop, it would handle extremely well, and after a 502, finally had the power to back up the image. Weak spots are not the trans, but instead the weak G80 diff. Plan on replacing it if you are going to make power.

The 1990 is not all it advertises to be. To answer your questions specifically:

The 454 was used from the 3500 models ( one tons) . It wasn't until 2003 that they got an LS1 version.

They are collectible though. This version was only made for 3 years at around 16000 units total.

They are beautiful to look at.

Consumer Guide said the acceleration was very good, and that it threw them back in their seats. And after all, it IS a 454 w/ 255 horsepower and quite a bit of torque, in a 1/2 ton, 2WD, shortbed truck. So yes, it is pretty fast.

There are high performance big blocks and low performance big blocks that make lots of torque for pulling, the one you are referring to is probably the torquey dogster.
