Your babies are used to sleeping during the day.......when you are pregnant You are up and walking around...which in turns rocks your baby through the day.....It is normal for babies to sleep 18 hours a day for the first 2 to 3 weeks....it takes time to ajust them......vary rarely does a baby sleep through the night......make sure during the day you pick her up and tickle her feet...to keep her awake....but dont overdo it.

From my own experience, when they are that young, you can't. You can't keep a sleeping baby awake and force an awake baby sleep. Try making a ritual out of night-time bed time. Start a process that will let her know that this the big sleep time. Start be getting the house to quiet down, turn lights down.
My ritual was, give a bath, put lotion on (which I didn't do at any other time of the day) and feed her in the dark and quiet. When she did wake up at night I tried to be as quiet and dark as possible when changing and feeding her. ( I had a friend that used a hair dryer on the baby's bum to keep from getting a rash!) Eventually she got the idea that everyone else was sleeping at night and awake during the day.
Those first weeks are tough for everyone...especially the baby.

At 3 days old you can't change her schedule. She needs to eat every 2 hours even through the night. One 4 hour period is ok. It will get better though. In a few weeks your baby will want to be awake more so you can talk to her and play with her during the day but she will still get up for night feedings. But not as often.

Well at 3 days old thats hard to get her to sleep all night long but if you can try to keep her up more during the day then she will be more wanting to sleep at night time... But a 3 day old baby wont sleep through night.... I have a 7 month old baby and she didn't start sleeping through the night till she was 3 month old.

You cannot keep a newborn up during the day if it wants to sleep. Babies sleep a lot for good reason. Attempting to bypass that could lead to health problems for her.

Every baby is different, some sleeping more during the night, others during the day. Eventually, they all begin to sleep more during the night (with any luck). : )

For a while at least, you will have to adjust your schedule to baby's schedule. That's just part of the sacrafice of motherhood.

Enlist the help of family and friends if you can. You'll need all the support you can get. Take care.

Theres not much you can do for awhile because you are not supposed to wake a sleeping baby because they grow and develope mostly while they sleep
try making her wait a lil longer during the day b4 you feed her that way she will be more awake. after a few weeks she will start being able to stay awake longer then you can keep her up during the day but for now i suggest just letting her get used to her new world. Congrats and good luck.

At 3 days old, you can't. Sorry. They do what they want. My oldest daughter slept all night. My second daughter was up ever three hours no matter what. It sucks. They aren't old enough to cry it out yet. Maybe closer to 8 or 9 months. But definately "hand her off" make sure you are getting enough sleep for yourself. Or adjust to her schedule and sleep when she sleeps. That is the only way to keep your sanity. Generally grandmothers are good to have around to watch the baby when you start to lose it from not getting enough sleep. Good luck!

Let the baby follow its own schedule; babies need a lot of sleep. Eventually it will lengthen its awake times in the daylight until it sleeps all night. Tired parents are normal; its just something to accept along with the unpleasant job of changing diapers.

You won't die of sleep deprivation & it will pass soon enough.

I have a 3.5 month old, and we had the same problem. It will take time, but she'll come around eventually. Try starting a routine. We gave our son a bath just before feeding & bedtime. You won't be able to do the bath at first, but once the umbilical cord falls off. Otherwise, steam from a hot shower is good at getting a baby to fall asleep because of the white noise from the shower and warm moist air.

Well, you're never going to get her to sleep all night long at 3 days old. let her take a couple of naps during the day but try to keep her awake. Stimulate her and keep her awake as much as you can during the day. I had that problem with my son and unfortunately I just had to wait for him to "grow" out of it. Good luck.
