I have an '06 Jeep Rubicon 6-speed regular wheelbase not unlimited. My input bearing is making noise (when the clutch is fully engaged but as soon as the clutch is pressed a 1/4 inch it goes quiet). I have cut my driving down and though i know its terrible for among other things the throwout bearing i have rested my foot on the clutch when not idiling (stoplights, coasting...) to avoid excessive wear on parts that are already worn, and since i have been doing that, the sound hasnt gotten worse like it did with good driving. I am extremely busy with work and school and havent had time to bring it in yet but hopefully soon. My real question is how long do i have if it is making a whirring sound with a possibly a hint of grinding (that is if I where to drive without foot on the clutch)?

i own a repair shop, and you may have a while to go left on it,,usually they,ll really start grinding before they go out,,but i have seen a few of them, make very little noise, and then go out,,so id take it easy on it,,you may get another month or two from it,,maybe more, good luck hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

an 06 should still be under warranty unless you travel a lot. I would get it to a dealer asap before it causes more damage and leaves you stranded.

It sounds likethe throwout bearing is bad. The vehicle still should be under warranty. You can drive it for sometime if its the throwout bearing. Input shaft noise gets noiser under load when driving.

how bad is bad? how noisy is noisy? no way for any of us to give an absolutely accurate opinion here. we can't hear it. an 06 is under warranty, unless hi miles or damaged/ modified any at all.looks like a dealer visit is in your immediate future.

you can drive it until it wears completely out but if its an 06 it should be under warranty still and get it fixed
