My husband had saltwater aquariums set up for years and had hermit crabs. They never transmitted anything to him. They were cool little creatures, always growing and looking for a new shell to inhabit.

I think you don't have anything to worry about, frankly.

No, they do not carry any disease, at least not one anyone but a crab could catch

No. They're actually very clean. They don't even reproduce in your cage without certain conditions, so you don't have to worry about that.
