For Christmas dinner. But he says he's too lazy to go. I told him we would only there for a couple of hours. You think he should just suck it up and go or should I just leave him alone?? We only see this part of my family once a year.

The drive is about an hour away, but I told my husband I didn't mind doing the driving. So when he gets there he could just relax and have a few beers if he wants.

He does have Monday and Tuesday off where we won't be going anywhere.

He didn't go to their house last year.

I sometimes struggle with this issue as well. I think if you only ask him to spend a few hours here and there with that side of the family, then it's perfectly OK to insist for him to come along. Are you sure that he isn't trying to get you out of the house so that he can work on your Christmas present? He might actually need you to be gone in order to surprise you or something.

I guess I would want to know how far of a drive it is, and if he's getting much else for a break. Personally I get sick of traveling if I'm spending more time driving than relaxing.

But if that is not an issue, then yes, he should just suck it up. He's not thinking about how uncomfortable it'll be for you to have to explain why he's not there. It's Christmas for goodness sake!

...can also use the, "It'll be worth your while tonight" that my wife has pulled on me a couple times. :)

Tell him to suck it up, I have been there but tell your family in advance you will only spend a short time and give a reasonable excuse so they would not be dissapointed that you leave early.

he should suck it up and go. If you only see them once a year then your not asking too much, tell him he needs to go with you and be there with you. Surely he loves you enough to do this one simple favor for you.
