in this sentence i cant undersatnd what is the meaning of sheer ingenuity? and "it always has a new trick up its sleeve to fox us old-timers."

erm...cus im asin but i study in the uk now, if anyone can answer me i will be glad of that!!

a new way to trick us easily, who come from older times and have different habits/ways of thinking
