To me - joy is happiness to the point that you are spreading it around.
If I could give you some examples - it would be - well for little children - when they are skipping around and very care-free. For me it is when I am feeling gratitude about things - and knowing how good life is - and it starts to "ooze" out of me - like smiles to strangers - and big warm hugs and happy words to loved ones - etc.

Normally when I get this there is a sense of well being associated with a feeling of expansion in my chest, some back of my throat type tightness (but not in a sad or painful way, slightly ticklish), and a general sense of lightness.
There is an absence of fear and an agreeable maybe slightly excited attitude towards to future. Joy can be quite strong sometimes, but I'm older now so I haven't felt that sort of rush since I was a kid and I knew the pressies were waiting.

Joy, in my definition, is being wiith my family and friends, making them happy, and being happy myself. You can feel joy throughout the year.

its all an illusion. there is no such thing as joy, happiness or sadness. we are all trapped in a a state of illusion. the only way to get out of it is by meditation and realisation.
