The more memory the better. However not all memory will work if the chips are not the same. Since you do not list the type of memory, can not answer the question. Check the web site of the manufacturer of the laptop and they will tell you whether the memory has to be paired or not.

The 1gb with the 512 mb because that gives you more memory which means faster internet surfing so on and so forth and it is a better computer.

well, a 1Gb and a 512Mb combo would be more ram by as much as 3x, so that would most likely be better. However, I find that the quality of gaming doesn't change that much once you have over 1Gb of ram. In my opinion, the place to spend the extra money is on the graphics card. Your graphics card can really make a big differance in the gaming experiance.
