A 512MB RAM is a small chip used in a computer that allows the stored data to be accessed in any order — that is, at random, not just in sequence. There are five types of RAM used in a computer, they are
SDRAM
DDR
RDRAM
DDR2
DDR3
First find out what kind of RAM you are looking for.Of these yours should be mostly SDRAM or DDR
Next find out what is it's operating frequenzy, mostly for 512MB RAMS the operating speed will be 133MHz.But there are speeds upto 533 MHz.After that find the pin count. All these informations can be obtained from your computer catalog. After getting all these information search for that type of RAM on ebay.Their cost range from $40 to $120

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the amount of memory that a computer has. The computer's CPU (Central Processing Unit) works directly with RAM, so all of the information (programs, documents, games, etc) that need to be processed must be first loaded into RAM and then the CPU reads them from there, processes them and writes the results back into RAM again. That's also why increasing the RAM boosts the performance of computers, because they can load more data at once to process instead of loading the data in smaller chunks, and some programs (like 3D games) simply need more RAM to run. RAM comes in sticks (which have chips on them) and it gets plugged in on the computer's main board (or motherboard). MB (Mega Byte) is a measurement unit for RAM, so 512 MB shows the amount of RAM in your question. You can buy these sticks in every computer store or online, but you'll have to pay attention that they are compatible with your motherboard or they will not work.

RAM is random access memory - 512 mb is the size.
To get it you'll need to identify the type of memory sticks inside your computer buy the sticks, open your pc case and install it (carefully cos they damage easy)
You may have an adequate amount already.
Check by clicking START then control panel and double click SYSTEM
this will show your operating system and processor as well as any updates and also the amount of memory you have installed

512 RAM is just the amount of Random access memory your computer has this comes preinstall in your computer. you can check out how much ram you have by going to your task manager by pressing CTRL+ ALT+ DEL. go to the tab that says performance and you will see a graph with your CPU info ect. then theere will be 4 charts the chart on the top right corner should say physical memory . where it says total that is the amount of RAM you have. to make it alot simpler is like your computer has a table in which it lays out all the programs is currently running. 512 is the size of your table..if you increase the amount your table gets bigger and your computer can lay out more programs without slowing down. you can get RAM by going to your local electronic store like circuitcity or bestbuy ect.. however you first have to find out what type of RAM is compatible with your computer if you have your original computer manual you should be able to find it out by looking for it. In the manuel it will tell you what type of RAM you can buy that will be compatible if you dont have it you can call the manufacture of your computer. you need your computer model number and stuff but they weill help you locate it.

512MB of ram is 512 Megabytes of Random Access Memory. The computer uses this to store information that the CPU will process.
You can go to the local computer/electronics store and purchase some. The prices vary from $10-$300 so make sure to know your computer make and model, so that thte attendant helping you can be fast and efficient.

Ram is the memory your computer using for running software and operating system tasks (win xp). You can get it either online or at a local computer store (best buy, comp usa, circuit city, etc.). You need to be sure you get memory that is compatible with your computer (motherboard). Your best bet is to go to a local computer store and tell them the brand and model of your computer and get the memory from them. Even better take it to them and have them install it if you are unfamiliar with doing it. It would be their responsibility if something went wrong. If you just buy the memory from them, you usually can't return it once you open the package. It will cost more but may be your safest bet.

RAM is a physical Chip inside your computer. It is used to store temporary information until something is done with it. 512 Megabytes is not really alot when running windows. You will have to purchase more memory from a computer store and have someone install it for ya.

There are two basic types of RAM:
dynamic RAM (DRAM)
static RAM (SRAM)
The two types differ in the technology they use to hold data, dynamic RAM being the more common type. Dynamic RAM needs to be refreshed thousands of times per second. Static RAM does not need to be refreshed, which makes it faster; but it is also more expensive than dynamic RAM. Both types of RAM are volatile, meaning that they lose their contents when the power is turned off.
In common usage, the term RAM is synonymous with main memory, the memory available to programs. For example, a computer with 8M RAM has approximately 8 million bytes of memory that programs can use. In contrast, ROM (read-only memory) refers to special memory used to store programs that boot the computer and perform diagnostics. Most personal computers have a small amount of ROM (a few thousand bytes). In fact, both types of memory (ROM and RAM) allow random access. To be precise, therefore, RAM should be referred to as read/write RAM and ROM as read-only RAM.

To have 512 MB in you computer will greatly increase the speed at which your computer works (i.e. fewer crashing programs, programs appear faster, computer start times improve, etc.). You can get it by simply going to you local Best Buy or Circuit City and asking them to install it for you (you will need to bring your computer box).
