she is from brazil and doesnt completely understand english, she lives with me but in another room, and she speaks portuguese with her brazilian friends in front of me and it annoyed me that she wouldnt just speak english, so one time me and my friend (american) started calling her an "erfkel"(which i hope is a made up word) and laughing at her, we told her it was just a made up word but she didnt believe us, she asked one of her friends what it meant and and they looked it up in the dictionary, now she thinks i called her an impatient person with no control over anything and no will power, she is a very sensitive sweet person and she was crying last night because of it, i just feel terrible because she has always been so sweet and helpful, she has been upset lately cause she is away from home durring christmas for the first time, and i feel like such a jerk

Well, talk it out, talk to her, explain the situation, and if she doesnt understand, let it go, she'll get over it sooner or later.

Some times people get overwhelmed. or they are overdramatic about one thing thats small because something else is bugging them. its probably because of the whole first christmas here thing. just sit them down and talk. say that your sorry for everything. get that person a present that resembles home and your friendship.

Since it's near the Holidays, get her a gift and tell her that you're sorry and you ddin't mean what you said and you hope that she'll accept the gift and be friends with you again

Well try saying sorry to her in portuguese (by using translation, it's only one word that might cheer her up)

besweet adn try to make her feel at home while she;s away from home.
if she can;t go to brazil. bring brazil to come to her.

how long have you known her?
ask her if you have ever lied or hurt her before.
Then, ask her why would you lie and hurt her now.
