You could contact a US Embassy in India, or check their website. They should be able to tell you if there's any paperwork you need to drive in the US.

Be on the safe side and acquire an International Drivers' License.

If something were to happen with only your Indian license there might be unforseen legal difficulties.

i have rented a car & driven for about a month in california with Indian Licence

any where out side India u got to have international driving licence...most of countries have driving on right side of road. how will u get used to this as against Indian rules,check with your local rto for details

no no no PLEASE GO TO THE R.T.O AND GET AN INTERNATIONAL LISONCE THE FEE IS ABOUT RS 1000/- GET IT DONE RIGHT AWAY INSTEAD OF WASTING TIME YOU DON';T WANT TO GET NICKED IN AMERICA AND SPEND 2 MONTHS IN JAIL.THEY WILL BANG YOU UP AND HAVE YOU FROM BEHIND EVERY DAY.MOST ARE GAY'S IN PRISON THERE.SO GOOD LUCK.
