I'm just a casual fan of the franchise so I'm depending on those who are much more familiar and qualified to answer this question:
If Species 8472 were to do battle with Q, who do you think would prevail?

I liked Species 8472 because they were a potent enemy of The Borg and since Q facilitated contact between The Borg and humans, The Continuum isn't very high on my list. All of you answered as I suspected. Despite their ability to exit and re-enter fluidic space, Species 8472 just doesn't have a chance against the continuum.
P.S. To those that like to throw names around behind the security of their monitors, I would like to extend an invitation to my house so you can poke your finger in my chest and tell me what you think. You should know that I am a football player, hockey player, and a boxer. I'm 6'1" and 220 pounds. It's not the names that bother me, it's the fact that you use them in a cowardly way.

The Q. They have the ability to change reality; that is far more powerful than 8472 (they can just travel through liquid space).

Three reports. One on the frontiers species 8472 was sold to
quest types of delivery merchants. No competition. The q was not even interested and died out entirely of boredom(political).
2. On the military cutting side of the species competition in
the year 2130 the quest, the quantums, and the quill got together to form the questors and perservered due to their larger physical abilities. This being a frontier chevrolet dump planet. In
general report q is more in trouble with Jedi and has been losing
data teams to the quest sales payment, something like a world
of teachers being harassed, typical cheap economic space pad. Generally this will sort out the hunters, poachers and farm
rings that use brutal patrols. Not a planet to buy into today. 3.
On the fine point frontier the quest was sold because of insufficient production, no ability to clear land, or change products. The new galactica, galatica alliance is true. The last
week report is that China has landed 35 full complements in
cambodia right on the Ho Chi holdings, shazam, soon open in the team ledger 4545. Should be a strong investing station. Peace. Peas. Music, Happiest 2007 for all your friends and families.

I don't know who Species 8472 is, but I am familiar with Q. You DO realize that Q is not just one man, but an entire Continuum? Be that as it may, I have no idea who would win. Now if it was the Borg.....

somewhere down the line Captain Picard would stick his nose in the middle of it and mediate peace between the races.
oh, and as far as the people that hate Star Trek just because they can't understand big words and good plot lines, piss off.

So you're asking that if a non-omnipotent non-super race were to fight an omnipotent super race, who would win? I'll give you some advice: Always bet on the omnipotent race.
(So, the Q is/are the answer)

The Q are omnipotent, so if I were a betting man, I'd go with the all-powerful dudes.
