I received a US census questionnaire and do not want to fill it out because of all the personal information they want to know about you and your family. I believe it's my right to not have to give this information to a 3rd party. It's both a pain and time consuming. What happens if you refuse to fill it out? Thanks!

You are required by law to fill out a return. You can be fined for not completing the information.

That said, this is not a census year, so you can't have received a valid census form; this is most likely some form of scam. The next national census is in 2010

Nothing. Many people refuse to fill out even the short form. Our government uses the info to determine all kinds of statistics which affects voting districts & sometimes law or allocating monies differently. The individual data re your own census is confidental & no one else can access it for 70 yrs. This I know from my genealogical research.

Did you get this recently? The federal govt only conducts census data every 10 yrs; e.g. 1990, 2000, 2010, etc. It might be a way to steal your ID. Query federal census address & see what you get. If this address is different report it to the census bureau.
