I'm supposed to go to a casting agency so they can take pictures to be a prospect. I don't know how to present myself to them initially. What is it called to go get pics taken to be a prospect?

Hey Bellow,

Get a Head Shot. You can find many professional photograph studios that will do this for you.

It's not typical. Perhaps they are not a real casting director. There is no such thing as "being a prospect," except for scam!

The actor usually has his/her 8x10 headshot taken by a professional photogrpher, which the actor will mail to casting directors and talent agents (with resume attached to the back of the headshot).

It doesn't sound legitimate. If they ask for money RUN! As this is not how the industry operates. Actors NEVER pay a casting director or Talent Agent. There is no such thing as "being a prospect," especially if you have to pay. The role of the casting director is to audition actors for roles in tv, movies, film, commercials, industrials, etc.

Sounds like a scam, must be a scam. Don't give them money.
YOU NEVER PAY to get a job as an actor be an actor! Legitimate Casting Directors and Talent Agents do NOT charge money.

All you need is a friend with a five megapixel camera and photoshop.
With photoshop you can correct bad lighting and even remove scars, whiten teeth and eyes, add color to sallow skin.
Take several pictures wearing several different out fits (each one a different character type). Slap four photos on the back and your favorite one on the front and you've got your headshots.
Oh yeah, black and white seems to be the most popular, probably because it's cheapest to print in bulk, ON GLOSSY PAPER, but if you are really goodlooking I might think about breaking the bank and going with color.
Good luck!

What she said. What they're doing is not illegal so you have no recourse. Don't go to the meeting. Make up an excuse.
