as fans, you cannot do anything except not buy the album. I'm an artist & sound engineer. I'll tell you how we as artists can stop it.... I don't know if you noticed, but the shift in type of music is coming back to hip hop itself. I'm not talking about gang violence. I'm talking about the soulful hip hop, is coming back to it's roots. Artists like me, and like Nas, Busta Rhymes, Dre, etc are coming back retaliating about all this ga-y little "I got ice and chains and can roll on 24"s sh!t" they have out now.. Purchase the new NAS CD, and he talks about it throughout the whole album. I'm against all this stupidity rap crap that's flooding the hip hop scene. It doesn't take a genius to rhyme Jelly with Belly. New artists dont' take time to write the lyrics to provoke thoughts & mean something real. THey just in it for the money , and the movement is beginning..

come check out my music at www.mindsetentertainmentinc.net we got a mad variety of different type of styles of hip hop for ya taste!

The first thing I'd do (although I'm not one for hip-hop myself) is to become a hip-hop artist and spread the word about not doing bad stuff. Be involved in community service and keep the lyrics down a bit.

For example, take a look at what Jay-Z is doing. He's into the whole water conservation thing now and he also asked a question a while ago on here although I can't find it now. There's also this great documentary he did with Think-MTV about the problem in some African country. Doing things like this will really cut down on all the violence that has so attached itself to the genre.

Hip Hop, Gangsta Rap, etc... is by nature violent music. It involves offending others with provocative lyrics, threats, boasting and sensationalism. It also feeds off gang stereotypes.

Many here may not remember the early days of rap with old-school groups like Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Roxanne I & II, etc... The music and tone back then was IMHO more playful, entertaining, fun and humorous. The lyrics today, presumably to sell CD's by using shock value, are filled with hate, swearing and idle threats which some in prder to defend their "bad" on-stage reputations may feel inclined to act out on.

What's the solution? We are the solution... We (the listening audience) have the power to end it by buying rap/hip hop which is non-violent and non-threatening instead of the type that is. Money talks and when CD sales dry up for the bad stuff, it will go away and things will improve.

Yes we CAN do something! It starts at home. We need to teach our kids how to resolve problems without violence. Parents need to get involved. And if you're the type of parent that lets your child runaround in the streets late at night...or with the "wrong crowd" and you just doesnt give a crap whether your child has weapons and turns to violence, then you shouldnt be having kids in the first place.

There is so much out there to show our children, so many positive things. Why are we showing them violence?? Why are we arguying infront of them? By hitting them we are only showing them that it is ok to hit others. And yes we can do something about this. But we all have to put our part into this so that the next generation can live in peace.

May they all RIP

Ok. Peace. This may come as a real, Really big shock to
you. But only one of those in your list is dead. Now. How do
I know this,[a company that buys teen music]. These dark
societies are not as persay approved. What you need know is
they are on the coattails of music investors that had some top
results, a sort of peace corp budget emerged and top finance
experts have stepped in to cool off this teen hood world. This
is the bottom line, keep out, we truly hope it will die off. This
being a natural progressive business line is emerging separates the liberal gangsters, hood violent, and violent thug from the educated musicians. They have the right to learn and earn. Thats your message. Send ten, maybe a high five, but be
aware music is communication and they aint talkin peace.
