Woody was a strange guy that nobody understands except his wife. He's not perverted in the common sense of the word. Who is that creep R. kelly? Not perverted enough to make my radar screen.

1) Because everyone has their faults. Knowing that they have them makes them more human.

2) Not everyone thinks they are perverted, it depends on the individuals definition. I don't know why you think Woody is perverted. If it's because of the daughter Mia adopted, well, she was of age, so if Woody and her wanted to hook up then what's perverted about that? That's their choice, their business.

The only thing I know about R. Kelly is that stupid song he called a rock opera or something. As if it was or that he was inventing something new. He needs to check out the movie "Tommy" and it's album.

You're dealing with human psychology that is not completely understood. Many people deal in idol worship, not golden idols of the Bible, but celebrity idol of today's media. I worked with a person once, who called it, "... sitting close to the throne". Meaning that some people are willing to forget their values and standards if they can just be closer to the king.
Witness what happens when a TV camera or movie crew arrives at a location. Some people just have to be "seen". Some people will do or say anything just to get in the limelight!
Same principal applies for Woody and the others. Look at M. Jackson! Regardless of the payoffs to the families, people insisted he wouldn't do such things.
A percentage of the population will ignore any transgression just to identify with or support the famous offender.

I don't think people "look up to" them, but I agree that people continue to see Woddy's movies and buy Kelly's music. I think it's mostly because people either don't hear about the things these guys have done, or don't care. There's also the possibility that they actually enjoy the small interaction with these guys because it makes them feel "cutting edge" Who knows? Hell, Roman Polanski won an Oscar a few years ago but couldn't come to LA to get it or he would be arrested. Go figure.

Let me see. We have Woody's nut-case ex (always a reliable witness). There was no proof of any child molestation and as for Soon Yi (sp?), that was a case of not having good boundaries. They have since married & have a family. He is a talented director that most actors would kill to work with.

R. Kelly filmed himself having sex w/a minor. A criminal act, but I'm sure the poon was thrown at him & he caught it. As for talent, thank Heaven that rappers' musical careers are short lived.

Finally, I am not going to sit here & call anyone names - casting stones.

Because the media gives them positive publicity and people forget what they did. Woody Allen married his stepdaughter, which is sleazy, but at least she was legal age. R. Kelly should be in jail, because he did disgusting things to a very young girl.

We should boycott R. Kelly's cd's and any awards shows he is at.

why? because people like them fascinate the average person, whom regularly overlook the extrordinary moments or star moments, if you will, in their own lives. if this society didn't put a premium on celebrity/notoriety, then they wouldn't be looked up to for one. and secondly, they wouldn't even be in the public consciousness. it also seems that we as human beings, find it much more easier to forgive our heroes/idols, than ourselves.

I don't look up to them at all and look badly on the people who still like them. It is just sick stuff when people pay to see perverts and their stuff like that and the people paying are sick sick sick. One answer said it is called the clinton factor as they are referring to the Clin-toons being just as sick and the whole world still loves them.

probably because they never tried to deny it.... and they have some amazing talent, so much so that people tend to overlook their personal problems... the image you put forth to the media and what you do behind closed doors are two different things.
