PLEASE LIST SMALL FOWARDS ONLY.
THINK OR FIND OUT WHAT A SMALL FORWARD IS. HE MUST BE ABLE TO SCORE POINTS, SHOOT AND SOME REBOUNDING.

TO THOSE FOLLOWING, HAVLICEK PLAYED SMALL FORWRD AND SHOOTING GUARD.
PETIT WAS A POWER FOWARD

THE BIGGEST ARGUMENT OF ALL - ELGIN BAYLOR WAS A POWER FORWARD; LOOK AT HIS REBOUND STATS/TOTALS (CHECK IT OUT AT BASKETBALL-REFERENCE). IF BARKLEY IS A POWER FORWARD THEN SO IS ELGIN.
PLEASE SHOW YOUR BASKETBALL KNOWLEDGE AND GET IT RIGHT.

I am using the Power Rating System. Power Rating = PR = points + rebounds + assists = p + r + a =pr.

My List in order of greatness:
Bird - 40.7
Dr J - 39.2
Barry - 38.5
Cunningham - 37.7
Wilkins - 34
Dantley - 33
Havlicek - 31.9
B. King - 31.6
M. Johnson - 30.7
English - 30.6
B. Howell - 30.6
Heinson - 29.4
Dandrige - 28.7
Aguirre - 28.6
J. Twyman - 28.1
Pippen - 27.9
Mullin - 25.8
Worthy - 25.7
Davis - 25.7
Love - 24.7

This system resolves arguments and is objective.

Most overrated
Wilkins
Dantley
Aguirre
Pippen
Worthy

Most underrated
B. King
English
M. Johnson
Dandrige

Elgin Baylor WAS a small forward for most of his career. Rudy Larusso was the Lakers power forward for most of Baylor's career there. At the end of Baylor's career, Happy Hairston was their power forward.

There were only a couple of seasons in LA during which Baylor might be considred a power forward, but for most of his career, he did 'small forward' things like putting the ball on the floor, shooting from all over the court and playmaking.

Yes, Baylor was a great rebounder, but he was a great rebounder from the small forward position. You're looking at his rebound numbers rather than looking at the Lakers roster (or knowing the actual history of the Lakers). A look at the Lakers rosters will tell you who the power forward was, provided you know a little something about the players names you'll see there.

Havlickek played some guard when he was a sixth man, but by the time he became a starter, he was a small forward. He was versatile enough to play guard or forward, but he played small forward. Again, check the Celtics rosters from those years.

All of the above answers are excellent. Good job guys!

Tough to put in order after the first 2, Larry Bird and Julius Erving. Dominique Wilkins, Bernard King, Elgin Baylor, John Havlicek, Bob Petit, Connie Hawkins, James Worthy, Bill Bradley, Scottie Pippen, Adrian Dantley. I may be leaving out a few others, but these guys are the first that come to mind for me.

Size doesn't determine position. Magic Johnson was 6'9" and he played the PG, so your argument is flawed. How many points a player scores, how many rebounds he grabs and how many steals he gets doesn't determine his position. What determines his position is the position that his coach gives him, nothing else. With that being said, I'll answer your question.

1. Larry Bird
2. Julius Erving
3. Dominique Wilkins
4. James Worthy
5. Scottie Pippen

Why don't YOU define what a "small forward" is.

Elgin Baylor was 6'5", small by today's standards, average for when he played.

Larry Bird was the greatest forward of all time, period. Whether your talking big or small, he was the best.
