I Have Windows XP and a Friend has Mac we want to share files together. Do we both did the same FTP program to do this. I see Wise FTP is compatible with Windows and Mac.

FTP file transfer protocol is for downloading, not file-sharing based on Windows, Apple. FTP is more Unix/Linux based machines for larger networks, based on computer models. Not peer to peer (2 to 10 computers) file sharing. But FTP can be 'simulated' using the utilities.
AppleTalk and NetBios, is one protocol based on peer to peer.

Wise FTP is just a client. Clients don't connect to clients, they connect to servers. In other words, one of you needs to run an FTP server, and the other needs to connect with a client.

Filezilla makes both a client and a server. You probably will want to run the server, since you have windows, and your friend can connect with his client.

EDIT: FTP is perfectly suitable. FTP over SSL is also secure. If other posters would explain why FTPS isn't a good idea, they may be more believable.

If you are on the same network: setup network shares.

If you are in different locations:http://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=online+file+storage&prssweb=Search&ei=UTF-8&fr=FP-tab-web-t340&x=wrt&meta=vc%3DcountryUK

FTP isn't, as other posters have said, particularly well suited or secure for this.

Not a very efficient way to do it because you have to give permissions to everyone you want to access your machine and vice-versa.
