I am an AVID Dean Koontz reader, and I love his work. I have just finished The Taking, and I agree - it was "frickin awesome" ;). I have also read his works: The Face Of Fear, Tick Tock, The Door To December, and Velocity.
I highly enjoyed reading those books, and I suggest The Door To December first, because that was an amazing book, and in my opinion was his best work.
But I suggest you read all of those four because our tastes may differ, and they are all good books.
I've only just gotten onto his works and read those five books this year, but when I can get my hands on the rest of his books I am going to read them all.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy his works.

Just wanted to add Dragon Tears, From the Corner of His Eye, and Odd Thomas to your list. Awesome books. But, then, everything Dean Koontz writes is awesome as far as I can tell.

Any of the atypical Thomas books. There are 4 of them. atypical Thomas atypical Hours consistently atypical Brother atypical those are spectacular books. they have been reviewed as: "as quickly as in an tremendously super whilst, an author does each and every thing precise - as Koontz has in this mind-blowing novel. it somewhat is Koontz working at his top, offering terrific entertainment that deals heavily with the a number of inner maximum matters of human existence: the character of evil, the grip of destiny and the capability of affection." - Publishers Weekly you will hit all thoughts, I laughed, cried, regarded over my shoulder to be sure if something became there, and hated whilst the books ended. truthfully a number of his terrific.
