Theodore Roosevelt, while Vice-President and at age 42, was elevated to the Presidency following the assassination of President William McKinley in 1901. Roosevelt was subsequently elected to a full term as President in his own right when he was 46. At age 43, Kennedy was the youngest person ever elected President of the United States, but he was not the youngest ever to serve as President.
Here's a fuller, more precise list of the TEN youngest presidents:

It was John F. Fennedy. JFK was not only the youngest president, he was the first Catholic to be elected as President as well. Noted for his drafting and design of the Civil Right Act of 1964, which was implemented upon his death by Lyndon B. Johnson. I remember the day he was killed. As kids we mourned as if he was a relative. Obama has the same shades as Kennedy with his positive unifying messages. If elected he would be the youngest and the first minority president.
