this year was the last straw

i purchased a gift for my sister in-law and while at the store I assessed the whole experience for me of this thing called "Christmas shopping" and I also closely observed the other people scurrying about the mall and i concluded:

this is not for me

and never has been.

from my new point of view, this tradition has grown tired, weird.....even grotesque ( thousands of children are starving to death every single day ) cummon....

..... I love giving gifts and showing love and acknowledgment but this whole December mania has strayed from a good place .... i cannot abide by this any longer ..... and i don't give a toss if all the mega-shopping centers go bankrupt and every one loses their jobs as a result of a decline in Christmas shopping.

as long as i live and breathe i will NEVER buy or give to another human being a "Christmas" gift. I will also request that none be bought for me ( though i will graciously accept any gifts people give .)

"gifting" is OK just not this store frenzy once on this official gift giving day kind

.

My husband and I had this conversation just the other day. We both agree that as children we enjoyed the getting much more than the giving, but as we have grown up, and especially since having children of our own the giving is far more fun than the getting for both of us. That being said, I think what is the most fun for him is taunting the rest of us when he knows he has found the perfect gift. He's been running around for days now telling me how much I am going to love what I am getting. Personally, I enjoy imagining what the person will look like when they open the gifts I give. I didn't ask for anything this Christmas because the getting is not at all important to me.

I like giving gifts. I feel bad if I can't because I feel I am letting someone down. When I get gifts it is only seldom I receive anything I wanted or can use. Often, as this year, some gifts are going to have to come after Christmas. For instance, this year I am knitting my daughter a sweater. She knows I am making it. I took her measurements and she picked out the yarn. I also have twin granddaughters and while I want to give them everything I know I can't. So yes, I think giving is better. Isn't that the reason we celebrate God's giving us His Son? That is the best gift, I think.

Right on sister. It's even Biblical sorry I don't recall the chapter and verse but it says some thing like it's more blessed to give then to recieve. Enjoy the season and I'm sure you're getting something. Your gift could be the joy you give others in giving gifts to them.

I too would rather give than "get", but sometimes the best gift you can give someone is letting them see the pleasure on your face when they've given you a gift...Which is sometimes hard to do if it's not even close to something you like, want. will use or need...And that my friend, is sometimes called the art of being gracious...something most of us know very little about. I tend to be guilty of this.

I am a mother of 3 children (under the age of 7). As long as my children have presents, I am happy. So I like giving presents. It is just the thought of my kids with there big grin on their faces that makes it worth-wild. Merry Christmas!!!!

I would rather share the bounty and joy with family and friends. I'd rather give. Most of my friends have decided that we'd share our time rather than gifts. You really do get more joy sharing time rather than rushing finding the "perfect gift"
