The church says we celebrate Christmas because it is the birth of Jesus Christ, however he was born early summer. It was however celebrated by the pagans and Romans as a celebration of light at the time of the solstice. Since it was already considered a sacred time moving the celebration of the bringer of Light, Christ, made the transition easy. We still celebrate the return of light and the potential for love and beauty in our lives. Blessings and Merry Christmas

We celebrate Christmas as the day of Christ's birth. But now is has probably become too materialistic so the meaning of it has been a little more hidden. But it is supposed to be the day of celebration for Christ's birth

This is the time of the year when we celebrate Jesus's birth. We have a mass for Christ. Christ'mass. Pagans celebrated the winter solstice at this time. During Constantine's rein,he combined many of the Christian beliefs with the Pagan holidays. I think it is regrettable because Christ almost gets forgotten with all the hustle and bustle of Santa,Christmas trees ,and gift giving.Have a merry Christ'mass!!

We celebrate Christmas, whether it happened at this time of year,or not, because a baby was born. A very important baby who grew up to become the most important man in the history of the world.
He wasn't a great general, or political leader. He was, and is, a King. The King of Kings, but while he was here he was known as a teacher. He lived in poverty because He gave up everything to live with everyday people.
The baby, whose birth we celebrate, is Jesus Christ. He is the pivot point of all world events From His birth on events have been carried on in His name, done in His name, and people have given their lives for Him.
This is all because He was born, lived and gave his life for us and then rose again by overcoming death so we might have life if we believe in Him.

Simple. Because it's a holiday we choose to celebrate.

There seems to be the idea that you can't celebrate Christmas unless you're Christian. While it is a Christian holiday, that doesn't mean you celebrate it because of the birth of Jesus.

It's like Halloween. How many people you know celebrate it because it's the harvest festival, or they're pagan, or they're catholic (pre-all saints day)? People celebrate it because it's fun.

If there's one thing I learned about this country is that we like to party. Hell, we even party harder than Mexicans on Cinco de Mayo!
