Being from Montreal, I love hockey. One of the most memorable games I was lucky enough to be at was Montreal VS Buffalo about 4 or 5 years ago.
Matthew Barnaby was on Buffalo back then and the previous year in the playoffs he taunted us when he scored on our home ice.
Well this game the Canadiens got into 3 or 4 fights with Barnaby the last one you could see his face squished between 2 players on the ice on the jumbotron.
One of the most exciting games I saw just to see Barnaby get his a$$ kicked.
I don't even remember who won.
All this to say, we love hockey fights because it gets us out of our seats and gets us to cheer the player on our team...it gets our blood rushing as it does the other hockey players on both teams.
Gotta love hockey.

its part of the most beautiful game on earth, and it will never go away. with today's new rules to make the game faster and more and more smaller players will enter the league, at one point the fighters will be called upon once more cause your smaller star players will start to get pushed around and you will need that though guy in your lineup to smack him around. so in the next 10 years fighting will be bigger in the NHL then it is today maybe even sooner.
Leroy Jenkins>>>>>>>fighting in hockey is not to just two goons fighting for the fun of it, its part of the game they need it to make that come back when the team is down in the last period and with it it gets the team and the fans all pumped up and gives the players that extra energy to come back in a game. if fighting goes out of the NHL you will lose many fans and players will start to yous there sticks more often. IT'S PART OF HISTORY AND PART OF THE GAME LEAVE IT ALONE.

Because hockey fights are something where to people are fighting for something other than money. Whether it is a retalitory fight for a goalie or star player, or just to get a team pumped up to make a comeback, hockey fights will help the game. Are you listening Gary Bettman?

I dont like the goon fighting, where they just decide to fight just to fight. I enjoy the spirited bouts where 2 guys have been battling all night and just flat out get sick of each other and go at it. But other then that, it just makes hockey look like a side show as opposed to an actual sport.

I actually don't like the fights. I believe that the game really does not need fighting, and still have a quality hard hitting game. Problem is that because Fighting has been a long accepted part of the game, it is considered a normal practise. I believe that is why non-hockey fans have difficulty with fighting in the game, they don't understand the role that fighting plays in the game. Personally, I don't believe it has a real important impact. The rules such as the instigator rule and last 5:00 rule has made it difficult for players to fight for no reason.
With all that being said, if you have been to an NHL game when a fight breaks out, watch the crowd ... American or Canadian...they all get out of their seats.
Cheers.

We like anything that's intense, physical and competitive. The idea that you can have an all out fight in a controlled environment, makes it all the better.

It's like a car crash, we can't look away. And the NHL allows fighting...yeah bring it on. It's fun to see 2 men go at each other like brothers fighting over a girl. Did I mention the NHL allows it. It's a boxing match in the middle of a game. And unlike boxing there is no Don "only in America" King to pinch $ from the fighters.

I don't really care for the fighting, for me it just slows the game down. I love the physical aspect, but when the game stops because of it, it has goen to far.

Violence is fun to watch, it's human nature to either cringe(flee) or laugh (fight).
