It's called ideology and it transcends political parties. Ideology creates divides and many people on both sides have an all or nothing attitude on matters they feel passionate about. I can handle the debate on issues, but I get very tired of the name calling on both sides. People will never completely agree on all matters and life would be very dull if they did. All I ask is that people respect the right of others to form and hold their own opinions and that they base these opinions on honest facts rather than half truths and distortions designed purely to support an agenda.

If you look back over the past few decades. (I believe it started somewhere in the 70's) You can see the beginning of the polarization we are now part of. It's all a matter of polarization. Moderates are fewer and fewer because many feel alienated by one side so they're thrust into another. I am a liberal but consider myself a moderate because I believe in some conservative values. You're right though, it is quite pathetic to look at these people on made-up sides insulting eachother without knowing eachother.

First, let me say that you are smart being an independent. Neither Democrat not Republican stand for anything, other than high taxes, big government, undermining the Constitution, and foreign entanglements. There is no difference between them.
Liberal and Conservative are labels that are used to identify political ideology. The liberal believes that government is a force for good. He believes that government can be used to solve societies problems, such as jobs, housing, education, health care and so on. The liberal fears guns in private hands and wants them controlled by government.
The conservatives believes that government serves to protect peoples lives and property, but government is threat to freedom, and must be restrained. The conservative believes that individuals, not government have an obligation to care for those in need.
The neo-con is more of a Trotkyite, than a conservative, but he likes to refer to himself as a conservative. Neo-cons include Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and Bush supporters. Neo-cons advocate "efficient" big government, foreign involvement in undeclared wars, "free trade", and building a huge "anti-terrorism" infrastructure by dismantling the Bill of Rights.
Pat Buchanan is an example of a conservative.

that's a standard one. only substitute the be conscious leftist for liberal. in my view it is going to have been performed before, because of the fact the "liberals" interior the u . s . fail the meet the non-political meaning of the be conscious liberal. To be a liberal interior the non-political experience of the be conscious, potential to be open minded, which regulations out the familiar public of the management of the DNC. i'm a liberal interior the non-political meaning of the be conscious, are you?

IMO, it is perpetuated by the media. More than politicians, the media (both mainstream and factional) love to point fingers, and they need these labels so they can point at the side they're *not* on.

it's simply an agenda that our govt/media perpetrates in order to give people an illusion of choice at election time.

The problem I have with liberals are they are like Jehovah's witnesses, they want to jam their beliefs down your throat. They are not happy tip toeing thru the tulips, they want me to do it too. They want to take my guns. i am not a criminal, I abide by the law, but they want to take them anyway. If they want to live gun free, then by all means do it, but don't expect me to do it too.

We like to point fingers at each other, and Democrats like to think anyone who isn't one of them and doesn't think like them is wrong.
