How do I caluculate 20% off from a product like a 60gb Playstation 3?

I have a 20% off gift card from toysrus, and I want to know how to calculate the price.

I calculate it in my head this way.

If an item is 16.00 then 10% would be 1.60
I then add 1.60 & 1.60 then subtract it from 16.00 to get what the 20% discount would be.

I'm terrible with numbers so I try to simplify things

If a PS3 sells for 600.00 then 10% of that would be 60.00 and 20% would be another 60.00 equaling a120.00 discount

for a $600 item...
$600 x .8 = $480
